genius boy

so a while ago i was in charge for putting together a gift basket for a family whose husband/father was in a fatal 4-wheeling accident. in the basket was a little mini mouse for the little girl in the family. annie was obsessed with it and kept trying to convince me that it was hers. i explained to her that it was going to a sad little girl who didn't have a daddy anymore. she kept probing and eventually it was said that the  dad wasn't wearing a helmet and hit his head. i then turned it into a "you ALWAYS wear your helmet" lesson and said that you're smart if you wear a helmet. she was soaking it in and said, "papa's smart! him wears a helmet!" (she saw my dad many a time going for a roadie ride and wearing his helmet).
anyways, anytime she wears a helmet or sees someone wearing a helmet she points to her head and very matter of factly says "him/her smart".
yes, i'm getting to my point...
rhet has a "flat head" on his right side that has not self-corrected. his practitioner thought it best to put him in a helmet to give a little round-love to his little flat head. he is required to wear it for 23 hours a day, every day. the first time he was fitted for the helmet annie got really excited and said "rhet smart! rhet smart!" and now that it is constantly on, he is pretty much a genius to her.

i obviously wish he didn't have to wear it, but man is he cute in it!

just so we don't forget what that cute little melon looks like.

annie not only sees the helmet as an intelligence marker but as a ticket for "anything goes". if i got a dollar for every time i have heard a "clunk" from his helmet hitting something and annie running away from the scene, i would be... wait for it...a rich woman. i think this helmet might become permanent.

  1. That is a cute story and he looks even cuter in that helmet. Can't wait to see you all!
